Websites for Cities and Municipalities

Would you like to build a website for your city using TYPO3?

We think that's a great idea, because TYPO3 is a very powerful content management system that we've already used to build numerous applications for cities, public sector organizations, and tourism organizations.

What is important to consider when building a website for a city?

If you are responsible for your city government’s website, the first question that arises is which content management system would be best suited for building the site. We recommend TYPO3. TYPO3 is a reliable content management system that is highly customizable and already powers many public websites for government agencies and cities.

We have developed many extensions specifically for cities and municipalities that are precisely tailored to the needs of public administrations, cities, and tourism organizations. A key service is the council information system, which we can either integrate into the website via a subdomain or set up as an OPARL interface. For cities, the primary focus is on citizen services, which provide residents with a comprehensive overview of all important services and points of contact. The website should also offer a powerful search function, ideally implemented using Solr.

Feature | Citizen Services and Public Services

The centerpiece of a city website is the citizen services section, which transparently lists all points of contact, responsible departments, and office hours on the website and provides access to services. For the citizen services section, we have developed our Citizen Services Extension, which also includes the Leika number and the regional code. Alternatively, citizen services can also be integrated, for example, via the BUS system in Lower Saxony or the regioIT system in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Feature | Event Calendar

Many cities host numerous events that need to be displayed in a calendar and list view. We offer a convenient solution for this as well: our Event Extension. Events can be set up with or without a booking feature. Payment options such as direct debit via SEPA file or PayPal can also be integrated.

Optionally, you can give residents the option to submit event suggestions via a suggestion form. The submitted suggestion initially appears as an inactive entry in your event calendar. You then decide whether to approve or reject the event.
